Britain's Prince Charles says doomsday clock of climate change is ticking fast

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - Britain's Prince Charles on Thursday called for a war on climate change, warning that the world faced a catastrophe without a "courageous and revolutionary" approach to combating the threat.

"For me, the crux of the problem is - and I only pray I will be proven wrong - that the doomsday clock of climate change is ticking ever faster towards midnight," Prince Charles told the European Parliament.

"We are simply not reacting quickly enough. We cannot be anything less than courageous and revolutionary... In this sense, it is surely comparable to war," he said.

He called for an alliance between public, private and non-governmental organizations to tackle climate change, which he said was one of the world's most urgent problems.

Charles, who has been vocal in pushing all nations to adopt a coordinated response to battling climate change, also planned to visit Belgium's King Albert II during his visit to Brussels.
