Looking for work? Drivers and bricklayers are the professions most in demand, according to the city Department of Labour and Employment. Least in demand on the employment market are secretaries and ticket-office workers, and there are no vacancies at all for flight attendants, said Oleg Neterebsky, head of the labour department.

"The profession most in demand is bus drivers with 2,290 vacancies, and regular drivers with 5,371," said Neterebsky. "The department's data base also has 3,801 vacancies for bricklayers."

Employers are also looking for commercial agents, with 3,701 offers of work, waiters with 1,263 vacancies, cooks with 2,405 job offers and sales staff - 1,383.

The medical profession is also in demand with 1,700 doctors wanted and 1,860 nurses needed.

Neterebsky added that the ratio of vacant professions to job seekers' professions was very uneven. He cited 119 video camera operators seeking work compared to one such vacancy in the department's data bases. Likewise, for every one vacancy there were 33 photographers seeking work, 54 typist/secretaries and 91 ticket sales staff. Other ratios included 143 lithography specialists for three vacancies, four vacancies for 161 economists, 219 labour inspectors for nine positions and an unfortunate 36 flight attendants for which there was no vacancies at all.
